United Way holds annual Day of Caring

You may have seen folks around town Thursday afternoon sporting orange t-shirts with the phrase "Live United".  It's promoting an annual event through United Way where volunteers unite and cover the city doing what needs to be done to make life a little easier for those needing help.

Mustang Rally motors into Sturgis

Promoters say there may be more than twice as many Mustangs in Sturgis this coming weekend as there were last year.  The annual Mustang rally in Sturgis is seeing explosive growth according to the organizers.  Around eight hundred Mustangs are expected in the next several days.

Chaplain first Army clergyman killed in battle since Vietnam

The military says a chaplain who died in Afghanistan is the first Army clergyperson killed in action since the Vietnam War.  Capt. Dale Goetz from White, South Dakota was among five soldiers killed by an improvised bomb on Monday.

Kindergarten numbers up in Rapid City

The superintendent of Rapid City Area Schools says the district is seeing a big influx of kindergartners this year.  Dr. Timothy Mitchell says the kindergarten classes in North Rapid City are beyond capacity so the district had to add two full-time equivalent teachers to that grade level.

Guard unit keeping busy in Kabul

The South Dakota National Guard's 196th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade out of Sioux Falls is deployed in Kabul, Afghanistan these days.  The Unit provides basic services for nearly 9,000 coalition troops in the 11 bases that make up the Kabul Base Cluster.
