You can get a glimpse back into Northern Hills history starting Wednesday night.Lead's Historical Film Festival opens Wednesday night at the Roundhouse in Lead. The first two-hour program features the city of Deadwood, with films from the Historical Footprints collection from 1915 up through the modern gaming era. Wayne Paananen says, "We have both commercial films that were done by actual commercial companies that came here in the early days. And then we have a lot of private film, people who came with their movie cameras and shot some exceptional footage. So it really boils down to we have about nine decades of historical film in the Black Hills." They'll also feature the 1953 movie Calamity Jane starring Doris Day and its premier in Deadwood and Rapid City. The program runs Wednesday night through Saturday at 7:00, with matinees Friday and Saturday at two. There are more monthly programs planned through April. |
